That didn't take long either, did it? The claim that Prime Minister Starmer accepted a wardrobe-full of suits - or work clothing if you prefer - worth £20,000 from a local London businessman, Lord Alli.
On every view, this reeks of corruption or as near as dammit. No businessman, however philanthropic, is going to give the most senior politician in the land £20,000 of suitings without serious expectation of something in return. It simply doesn't happen. Otherwise, why didn't Lord Alli make such a donation to his nearest Salvation Army branch, a far more worthy cause than that of Keir Starmer and his cronies?
Starmer has no judgement whatsoever or else he wouldn't have taken any of it. Of course, we knew that from his long association with Jeremy Corbyn and Starmer's own list of Cabinet appointments. In our view, all payments or gifts to politicians should be classified as criminal without exception.
No wonder Starmer's personal rating has plunged from pre-election high to minus 16 in a few short weeks. He simply doesn't get it, does he?
